Poppi and its history
Poppi is in the Casentino valley, about 60 km south east of Florence and 35 km northwest of Arezzo. The town of Poppi, once the main city of the valley, is located in the most northerly corner of the valley, close to the source of the river Arno. The historic center of Poppi rises 437 meters above sea level offering a wondrous view of the valley.
The castle in Poppi is recognizable from miles away. Built in the XIII century by the Conti Guidi it has been well preserved. It contains a library and a museum; the yard and main hall are often used for summer concerts and public events.
Because of its architecture and numerous well conserved historical buildings and monuments Poppi has been recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
